There are many reasons you may need to replace TV remote controls — you stepped on them, you dropped them in the sink, or you just flat out lost them.
TV remote replacements can be found online fairy easily. You can do a search for where to buy replacement remote controls, or contact your TV provider for the specific kind you need.
But you can try to repair TV remote controls on your own if you want to save a little money.
Here’s a few things you can do.
- Dust It. If you have a few tools laying around the house, you can probably open up your remote control so that you can see the inside of the electronic panel. You will have to be careful not to move anything in there, but if you can get a small brush or maybe even a Q tip, you can clear away any dust that may be interfering with the remote’s functioning.
- Acetone. Some dirt may require a little extra harshness to get off of your remote. You can use a Q tip and dip it into some acetone or alcohol, and run it in between the keypad numbers, along the sides of the remote, and on all the areas that touch the circuit board. This will help to loosen any pesky, clingy debris.
- Conductive Paint. This paint can be found in electronic stores, hardware stores, and also online. It actually acts as a conductor of electricity, which could be the problem with your remote. By applying small amounts of this paint using a cotton swab, you can paint the backside of your keypad.
